Modding Mari0 (and some updates)

Hey guys. All right? It's me, HugoBDesigner. So, as you might be seeing on the post's title, I'm working on a Mari0 mod. It's called Mari0 +Portal (as some of you may know). This mod is actually on it's version 0.5, but I'm still updating it. What it does is allow players to customize the game as they want, but per mappack. That means that if someone play a mappack with customization features, the game will replace, for example, default entities textures by custom entities textures placed on mappack's folder by it's author. Here's an example image of what I'm talking about:

Normal cubes:

Customized cubes:

Customized cubes (activated):

But I didn't wanted to stop there: I wanted to give more options for things. For example, in vanilla Mari0 you only have 1 cube texture (that doesn't change it's texture when activating a button), but in my mod you have 10 different customizable textures per cube (and per cube dispenser) that change their textures when activating a button. But now, in the update I'm working on, you'll be able to change their textures infinitely (and not only 10 textures).

But I'm also trying to make things in my next update the most customizable possible. I'm adding things like "non-portalable conversion gel", "acid gel", "custom level screens" and "custom overlays":

This may take a while, but once I finish it you'll be able to customize almost any aspect from entities/enemies. For example, I'm working on an advanced GUI system that allows you to set custom values for a lot of things (such as textures, sounds, properties and others):

It's not fully finished yet. I may add or remove some customization features but, until there, that more or less how they'll look. Another important thing I'm working on is to allow more expert users to modify even more the game's settings. For example, one feature I've added allows users to change predefined variables from the game in their mappacks. So you can do things like: change gravity, points, velocity of some things, and so on. Also, I'm planning on adding a system that allows users to add whatever they want to the mod, as if they were making a mod inside my mod (or maybe I'll just use Mari0 modloader, since a stabyourself.net's user called "ucenna" offered to merge my mod with this one).

Well, guys, I'll try to keep you updated more often but, until my next post, that's all I have for today. Thanks and see ya!

A "Slowly Progressing" Update

Hey, guys. All right? It's me again. It's been some weeks since my last update, so I need to show you what's happening: I've updated, again, my "Pop A Portal" mappack for Mari0. I've added a 9th world with some more awesome tests:

I've, also, added an alternative download in the mappack's page to a "Time Challenge" version. It's the same mappack, with the same tests, except that you have to complete them within a precalculated time and no checkpoints. It's a great challenge if you like puzzles and speed games.
But you may be wondering: "What else? Except for Pop A Portal, what else are you doing?". Well, I know that I'm mostly posting about "Pop A Portal", and you know why this is the only game that I'm working with (see 3 posts below), but, of course, it doesn't means that this is the only project inside Mari0 that I have to be working on. I'm also working on a mod (for Mari0 too), called "Mari0 +Portal".
Why is it called "Mari0 +Portal"? Because it is, mostly, the normal Mari0 plus some Portal looking stuff. I'm adding customizable stuff to it, more Portal looking textures to the already existing things in the game, and it will be partially compatible fully compatible with the vanilla Mari0 (yes, I finally found a way of making it fully compatible). For example: if you add some "customindicator" entities or some of the new "groundlight" entities, it will not be compatible. But if you only made custom textures for the game (that need to be added to the "custom" folder inside your mappack's folder), then it will be fully compatible. But, for making it compatible, you'll have to add a "customlevels" folder inside your mappack's folder. So, you should make a fully compatible version of your mappack first, then add the modded version inside this folder.
I cannot post a screenshot yet, because it is still very laggy (I'll have to redo a lot of stuff to make it run faster) and because I don't have everything done yet (there are a few things that I wanna change before showing everyone some image). Here is a really outdated screenshot of a very old version of it:

Thanks for reading this. I hope you understand why this is a "slowly progressing" update and, for you that are curious about what the mod will offer, here's the list (sorry if I forget something). Of course, the items of the list are subject to change or new items can be added. Who knows? Just click on "Read More" below...

More Mari0 updates: Pop A Portal Mappack

Hey guys, all right? It's me again, with some more good news. Remember that Mari0 game? If not, check it on the "Mari0" page on the right side of the blog, or in the previous post. So, I was working on a WIP (Work-In-Progress) Mappack called "Pop A Portal". Guess what? It's finally ready for you that wanna play!

(Click on the image to be redirected to the mappack's page)

I want to add an extra world with some more maps. I'll release it in my "DLC update". So, this mappack has 8 worlds full of different types of tests.

> World 1: Abandoned Science
> World 2: Conversion Gel
> World 3: Repulsion Gel
> World 4: Propulsion Gel
> World 5: All The Gels
> World 6: Wheatley Labs
> World 7: More Abandoned
> World 8: The Part Where She Kills You

So that's it, it's finally ready for subjects, but are you ready for the tests?
And be careful: she's watching you.

A long time away... and some updates!

Hey guys! I'm back. I've been away for a quite a lot longer, but I wasn't dead. I was working on a Mari0 mappack (and I'm still working on it). It's called "Pop A Portal". This game (Mari0) is a mixture of Super Mario Bros with Portal. That means that you play as Mario with a Portal Gun, in either the Mushroom Kingdom or the Aperture Science Testing Chambers.
My mappack is being very well done by me, even if I do say so myself. It has custom backgrounds, custom tileset (in Portal 2 style) and custom music (Excellence is Rewarded by Harry Callaghan).
About me being away: I'm still having those computer issues (see the post before this one). That means that, until I buy a new computer, I'll no longer work on Minecraft maps and texture packs. That also means that I can't make maps for neither Portal nor Portal 2. This also means that the only game that works on my PC is, actually, Mari0.
If you wanna check/download my Mari0 "Pop A Portal" mappack topic on stabyourself.net forums:

(Click on the image to be redirected to my mappack's page)

This mappack is still in WIP (work-in-progress), but it's practically finished. There's only 1 of 8 worlds to be done and a DLC (that I'm planning to release later).
When I wrote "and some updates" in the title, I wasn't talking only about Mari0. I was talking about the blog too. Have you noticed the background? Was made by me (way better than that dark gray squares). I also changed the font from titles to look more like Century Gothic (the font I use for almost everything). And I'll add some "tabs" in the side, and they will redirect you to other pages, with the (actually) following subjects: Mari0, Minecraft, Portal, Portal 2, Other games, My games, Java, Photoshop, Images, Videos and Contact.
So stay around and wait for news, because there'll be more!

More Computer Issues

That's right. I had even more problems with my computer, but this time was even worth. My computer is completely gone now. It just don't work anymore. That means that I'll have to delay all my W.I.P projects. I mean, until I buy my new PC (don't worry, it'll be soon). Read at my Facebook page the full explanation of this.

Computer Issues

Hey, guys. All right? It's me, HugoBDesigner, with some bad news. Remember that video project for my "Portal 2: The Return" map I was working on? If not, go check my Facebook page, where I was posting about it.

So, I was making a video in the same style of Portal 2 demonstration videos for E3:

So what was the problem? Well, about 3-4 days ago, my PC stopped working because one of my memory cards burned (I think). We took it to fix, but we had to format it because of a virus. The man who did it made a backup folder for us. So you may be still thinking: what was the problem? Well, I checked my folder in the backup and... SURPRISE! Inside my original folder I had some files and some folders. The backup folder had some files and... nothing else. I lost all those folders, which means that I've lost over 70% of my things (including this project). But, again, SURPRISE! I found my .minecraft folder there, because, coincidentally, I've moved this .minecraft folder to my Desktop just before this problem. So I still have the map that I used to make the video, and I still have the video itself, but I lost all my 3D animations, and I made them in Stop Motion. But don't worry, it doesn't means that I'll stop working on it. I'll have to redo everything, this will take me a long time, it will be hard to start from zero, but I'll soon get there, and I hope to soon post here both videos ready. So that's all I have for today, and good bye!

Portal 2: The Return - Update 1

Ok, I know that looks like I'm only working on my "Portal 2: The Return" map, but this is a big update, and I need to post it here.

Portal 2: The Return - Update 1

In this update, I've made a lot of changes, to the map and to the texture pack. I've (almost) fixed the bug that crashes the game when you meet Wheatley: now, if you exit and open Minecraft, the map will back to normal (mod issue, not my fault). Also, I've not only changed the texture pack itself, but also I've made a new topic to it:

HBD's Portal Pack - Update 1

Now you can download the texture pack and made your own Portal maps without problems...
Also, I've fixed some redstone issues, Old-Aperture dialogues repeating and a few other things.
Some pictures, if you wanna see the changes:
